JOHN A. TAMIAZZO, PhD., specializes in Imagery, Clinical Hypnotherapy, & Holistic Health and Healing. He earned his doctorate degree in East/West Consciousness Psychology. He has taught Health Education for Moorpark Community College and Self-Hypnosis for Health, Harmony, and Peak Performance and Nutrition and Wellness for Santa Barbara City College Adult Educatoin.for over 10 years and courses for them in Psychology and Personal Development for 25 years.
His Training Program is unique in that it draws upon and integrates significant aspects of the philosophy and work of: Freud, Jung, Adler, Maslow, Cognitive Psychology, Behavior Therapy, Solution Focused Brief Therapy, The Wellness Model, Play Theory, Buddhist Psychology, Taoism, Medical Hypnosis, and Milton Erickson. Each of these disciplines has something very significant to offer to the student of Hypnotherapy.
His broad repertoire of classes include: The History and Development of Western Psychology, Counseling Theory, Eastern Psychology, Altered States of Consciousness, Dream Interpretation, Jungian Psychology, Humanistic Psychology, the Psychology of Creativity, The Psychology of Health and Healing, the Psychology of Love and Intimacy, Jungian Archetypal Astrology, Solution Focused Psychology, Brief Therapy Models, Self-Hypnosis for Health, Harmony, and Peak Performance. Through the University of California Santa Barbara Extension, Dr. Tamiazzo taught courses in Counseling Theory and Counseling Skills for over 15 years. Through the UCSB Counseling Certification Program, he provided training in Solution Focused Psychology to 150 Department of Social Services Counselors in both Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo Counties.
Over 10,000 students have attended his classes at: Ventura College, Santa Barbara City College, Oxnard College, University of California Santa Barbara, Moorpark College, Los Angeles Pierce College, San Luis Obispo Adult School, Alan Hancock College, City University in Seattle, Washington, Lethbridge University in Alberta, Canada, The Foundation for Mythological Studies in Santa Barbara, and the Norwegian University of Science and Technology in Trondheim, Norway.
He is also the former Dean of the Psychology Department of World University in Ojai, California, a school dedicated to research in the areas of East/West Consciousness Psychology and the study of Death, Dying and Near-Death Experience. At World U., he had the opportunity to study with Dr. Elizableth Kubler-Ross, Raymond Moody, MD, Brian Weiss, MD, and Benito Reyes, PhD.
Following his graduation from UCLA, John worked for Glendale Adventist Psychiatric Hospital and then Calabasas Neuropsychiatric Institute. Both facilities specialized in treatment programs for acute and chronic mental illnesses. He is the former Director of Inpatient Services and then Director of Day Treatment Services for Woodview Calabasas Psychiatric Hospital where he specialized in group therapy, art, play, sports, creative expression and the performing arts in the treatment of mental illness. He is the former Director of Special Education Services for developmentally disabled and mentally ill adults hospitalized at Camarillo State Hospital, a program which served over 800 patients a day. He is also the former Executive Director of Jodi House in Santa Barbara, CA which provides programs and services to adults suffering from traumatic head and brain injuries. These professional affiliations took place over a period of 35 years.
He has conducted many trainings to businesses and corporations to hundreds of employees with the focus being stress managment, improved employee relationships, and improved employee morale. During a three year period, he provided training in stress management to over 400 employees at the AVCO corporation in Orange County, CA. He has organized many state of the art conferences including the Santa Barbara Spirit of Healing Conference with authors Joan Borysenko, Raymond Moody and Matthew Fox; Toronto, Canada Conference with author Joseph Chilton Pearce; the Victoria, BC conference with Don Campbell author of the Mozart Effect.
He has trained and certified over 2,000 students in Clinical Hypnotherapy over the past 17 years teaching in a variety of cities in California including: Santa Ana, Balboa Island, Newport Beach, Los Angeles, Ventura, Ojai, Santa Barbara, Santa Maria, Los Olivos, Avila Beach, San Luis Obispo, Cambria, San Francisco, and Inverness. He has taught in Mesa, Arizona and Albuquerque New Mexico. His programs have been presented throughout Canada including: Victoria BC, Vancouver, Calgary, Lethbridge, Abbotsford, Red Deer and Edmonton. He has taught in Oslo at the Oslo Research and Medical Center and twice in Trondheim, Norway at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. Currently, his California Workshops are based in the charming town of Los Olivos.
He is a Certified Trainer in Clinical Hypnotherapy by the American Board of Hypnotherapy and the American Board of Medical and Clinical Hypnosis and has been a certified Hypnotherapist since 1988. His training program is an approved hypnotherapy school with the International Hypnosis Federation in Palos Verdes, California.
